![]() In the Chippewa Square where there is an impressive bronze statue of the founder himself, the aforementioned James Edward Oglethorpe. I appreciated the fact that there were many park benches to sit down on, rest and do some serious people watching. ![]() As we walked mainly through the little parks/squares we didn't really focus on the architecture which was our mistake. We were there on a late afternoon in May. By the way, it's not a moss, rather being an epiphytic flowering plant and it doesn't come from Spain. As we walked on we were struck by the many mature trees providing welcome shade, many of which were draped in that southern style, grey Spanish moss. They formed the basis of the original town planning by the founder, the Englishman, James Edward Oglethorpe. We were intrigued by the number of little parks (more like squares and originally 24 of them). Having received helpful tips from the Savannah Visitors Center (sic) on a walking tour around the Historic District, my son & I strode off to see as much as possible. It was quite an experience and despite me not wanting to do it at first, I will say to you that it is a must see while in Atlanta. We ended up spending 3 hours in the aquarium. They had a band playing while we were there. We still got to see dolphins there though. We missed it by a few minutes unfortunately. The only thing we didn't get to see was the dolphin show. They have a couple of tunnels you can crawl through and end up in the middle of the exhibit which is pretty cool. Which I'm fine with being fussed at for their policy, I just didn't hear it beforehand. I apparently missed that announcement and got fussed at once I took one picture. There are no pictures allowed though by the way. We were thankfully able to get in to see the see lion show which was remarkable. They have the different exhibits broken up by what you will see (ie cold water, river, predators, etc.). ![]() So it's quite an impressive place to see. By water gallonage, it's the largest aquarium in the world. So by square footage, this is the largest aquarium in the US. By the end of the experience though, I had no problem with the price that we paid. I thought the admission price was quite steep for an aquarium. Something that made it easier for me to decide to see the aquarium (other than the fact that my wife wanted to see it) was that we were already going to be in the area seeing the other attractions nearby and could stay in the same World of Coke parking deck for most of the day. Plus, I really was wanting to go to a baseball game instead. I've been to several aquariums in the past and I was kind of thinking a fish is a fish is a fish and I don't want to waste my time going to something I can go see at several other places near where I live. I'll start by saying I didn't really want to come here, but my wife did, so we came here.
